Doctors, nurses and staff at Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital suspended medical services at all departments, barring emergency and indoor services, since Wednesday morning in protest against attack on a doctor and vandalising several areas of the hospital.
The protesters warned that they would not resume medical services unless the 'actual perpetrators' are arrested and their security is ensured.
Doctors at the hospital staged a protest around 11:00am on Thursday morning for two hours, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible for the attack and permanent security measures for medical staff. The protest was joined by intern doctors, medical students, nurses, and other hospital employees.
A rally was held at the hospital premises before protesters marched to the office of the Superintendent of Police.
According to the eyewitnesses, the incident exacerbated on Wednesday night when Abdul Aziz, a critically ill patient from Nuniachhara in Cox's Bazar, died while receiving treatment in the hospital's Coronary Care Unit (CCU). Relatives of the deceased angered by the death vandalise the ICU and CCU.
