A court in Rangpur has directed police to send Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Amir Ali and Constable Sujan Chandra to jail after they fell sick in remand.
They were arrested in Abu Sayeed murder case. Abu Sayeed was killed in police firing during the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement in Rangpur.
On Thursday (September 12) evening, Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) produced them before the Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Court-2's judge Asaduzzaman. After the hearing, the court directed police to send them to jail.
Earlier on September 10, the judge of the same court placed them on a four-day remand for questioning. The PBI pleaded to the court to place them on a five-day remand.
Court inspector Prithish Kumar said the two police personnel fell sick during their stay in remand. After their treatment, court was informed about the matter. The court directed to send them to jail.
The PBI said they received much vital information from the arrested police personnel which brought significant progress in the case.
It may be mentioned that Abu Sayeed was killed in police firing in front of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur on July 16 last. He was a 12th batch student of the university. His elder brother Ramjan Ali filed a murder case with Rangpur Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on August 18. Recording the case, the Tajhat Police Station sent it to the court on August 19. Then the court direcetd the PBI to investigate the case.
