Lightning kills three in Kishoreganj

KISHOREGANJ, Sept 4: Two teenagers and a young man were killed by lightning strikes in separate incidents in Austagram and Tarail upazilas of the district on Wednesday.

A teenage boy was killed by lightning strike in Austagram Upazila in the morning. The deceased was identified as Jahangir Alam, 17, son of Arjud Ali, a resident of Ararpar Village in the upazila.

It was known that Jahangir along with his brother-in-law Haris was catching fishes in the Bahadurpur Haor in Kastul Union under the upazila at around 7:30 am. At that time, thunderbolt struck him, leaving him critically injured. He was then rescued and taken to Austagram Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Kastul Union Parishad Chairman Saiful Haque confirmed the incident. On the other hand, two people were killed by another lightning strike in Tarail Upazila in the same morning.  

The incident took place in Kajala Village under Damiha Union of the upazila.  

The deceased were identified as Liton, 17, son of Abdul Jabbar, and Enayet Ulla, 20, son of Bakul Mia. Both of them were residents of Kajla Madhyapara Village.

According to local sources, Liton and Enayet were going to a water boy for catching fishes in the morning. On the way, thunderbolt struck them, which left the duo critically injured. Locals then rescued the injured and took them to Tarail Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the two dead.

Officer-in-Charge of Tarail Police Station Md Mansur Ali Arif confirmed the incident.
