The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed over the body of Swarna Das, who was killed in BSF firing, to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Tuesday night, 45 hours after the incident.

The deceased was Swarna Das, 16, daughter of  Parendra Das, a resident of Kalnigar village under Juri upazila in the district.

Kulaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Binoy Bhusan Roy said that the body has been returned to the deceased family after completing the necessary legal procedures.
Lt Col Mizanur Rahman Shikdar, sector commandant of the BGB in Sreemangal, revealed the detailed of the incident.

He said the teenager girl was shot by BSF personnel as she and her mother attempted to cross into India near the Lalarchak border area of Sharifpur union in Kulaura upazila in Moulvibazar district on Sunday night.

A flag meeting was held between the BGB and BSF to address the situation, Shikdar added.

According to Parendra Das, Swarna and her mother had attempted to cross the border illegally with the help of local brokers to visit his eldest son, who has been living in Tripura for long time.

When they reached the barbed-wire fence near the Indian border at around 9PM, the BSF opened fire on them, leaving Swarna dead on the spot but her mother narrowly escaped the gunfire.
