A group of people, including women, staged demonstration on Tuesday for getting their jobs back, blocking Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Gazipur's Tongi.
It is learned that they were sacked from jobs in different times on various charges. They worked at different readymade garment factories in Tongi and surrounding areas.
Some 150 to 200 people took to the street at Sataish Bus Stand area at 9:30AM on Tuesday. They later went to the highway and took position there.
At that time, movement of vehicles on the highway came to a halt following the protest.
At one stage, the protesters tried to make vandalism in Preety Garments Ltd and East West Factory. But police personnel managed to remove them from road.
Considering security, Preety Garments has announced leave for today.
According to industrial police Tongi zone assistant superintend of police Md Mosharraf said the protesters were sacked different times from factories there. They started protest for their job.
