Three people including two minor children drowned in separate incidents in two districts - Noakhali and Kishoreganj, in two days.
NOAKHALI: A teenage boy drowned in the floodwater after a boat capsized in Senbag Upazila of the district on Saturday.
The incident took place in Uttar Sahapur Village under Kabilapur Union of the upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Md Rajon, 18, son of Md Habib Ullah, a resident of Kabilapur Union in the upazila. He was a student in the HSC 2024 batch.
It was known that Rajon went to visit his maternal grandparents' house on Saturday. At around 5 pm, Rajon along with his two cousins Labiba and Ryad took a boat out into the floodwater. At one stage, the boat capsized, and the trio drowned.
On information, firefighters from Senbag Fire Service Station rushed to the scene and rescued them.
They were then taken to Senbag Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Rajon dead.
Critically injured Labiba was shifted to Noakhali General Hospital after receiving primary treatment at the health complex, while Ryad was discharged from the hospital after receiving primary treatment.
Officer-in-Charge of Senbag Police Station Md Nazim Uddin confirmed the incident, adding that Rajon drowned because he did not know how to swim.
KISHOREGANJ: Two madrasa students drowned in a ditch in Pakundia Upazila of the district on Friday.
The incident took place in Chartertekia Village of the upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Abdullah, 9, son of Asad Mia of Chartertekia Village, and Tamheed, 10, son of Uzzal Mia, a resident of Charkawna Madhyapara area in the upazila. Both of them were students of a local madrasa.
According to local sources, the duo along with another went to a ditch to bathe after playing football match in the afternoon. At one stage, they drowned there as they didn't know how to swim. Seeing them drowning, their associate screamed for help.
Hearing their scream, locals rushed there to help, rescued them and took to Pakundia Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty physicians declared the duo dead.
Charfaradi Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Mannan confirmed the incident.
