A law enforcement team arrested a local Union Parishad (UP) chairman of Noakhali Sadar upazila along with firearms and various local weapons on Sunday.
Mohammad Jasim Uddin, chairman of Andarchar UP, was arrested around 3:00 PM on Sunday from his home in Purba Maizchara village under ward No. 5 of the union.
Local sources said that earlier in the afternoon, Jasim Uddin, who also serves as the General Secretary of the local Awami League unit, was besieged by local students and residents at his residence. During a subsequent search, two foreign pistols, one local pistol, and approximately 20-25 locally made weapons were recovered.
Following the discovery, police and army personnel arrived at the scene, seized the weapons, and arrested Jasim Uddin.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) in Noakhali, Mohammad Asaduzzaman, confirmed the incident and stated that further details would be provided as the investigation continues.
