Md Yusuf Sadhu, a 40-year-old driver of a battery-powered rickshaw, has been stabbed to death by muggers in Dhaka's Basabo.

The incident occurred around 4am on Saturday beneath the Basabo flyover, under the jurisdiction of Sabujbagh Police Station.

Critically injured and bleeding, Yusuf was rescued and brought to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital at around 5:15am, where doctors declared him dead.

Shakil Mia, the deceased's nephew, said his uncle Yusuf owned and drove a battery-powered rickshaw, usually operating from night until morning.

He said muggers attacked Yusuf under the Basabo flyover early in the morning, stabbing him in the abdomen and chest to snatch his rickshaw.

However, the attackers fled without the rickshaw when locals spotted them.

People in the area, along with a student, rushed Yusuf to DMCH, where he was pronounced dead, he said.
After receiving the news, Yusuf's family hurried to the hospital.

His body has been sent to the DMCH morgue for a post-mortem examination, said Sub-Inspector Monakka Khatun, the duty officer at Sabujbagh Police Station.

Yusuf hailed from Champak Nagar village in Narayanganj's Araihazar Upazila.

He lived alone in a rented room in Jatrabari's Kajla, while his family remained in their village. He was the father of three sons.    —bdnews24.com
