MADARIPUR Aug 28: A case has been filed with Sadar Model Police Station (PS) in connection with the murder of Roman Bepari during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Deceased's wife Kajal Akhtar lodged the case with the PS on Saturday (Aug 23) night.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the PS  AHM Salauddin confirmed the matter on Sunday afternoon.

Roman Bepari, 32, was the son of Amir Bepari of Bhadrakhola area in Madaripur Sadar Upazila. He was a pickup-van driver.

According to the police and the case statement, Madaripur Municipal Chhatra League (CL) President Nobel Bepari and Rasti Union Chairman and Juba League (JL) leader Md Bellal Mollah have been made the main accused while 18 others were named.

Besides, 250-300 more unidentified persons also were accused in the case.

This is the first killing case among three people killed in the quota reform movement.

Both Nobel and Bellal are associated with politics of Shajahan Khan, former MP of Madaripur-2.

According to the case statement, on Friday (July 19) at about 4:30pm, the quota reform activists were marching towards the new bus stand from Mustafapur Round Square. JL and CL activists attacked the protesters as they came towards Khagadi bus stand.

At that time, there was a clash between the two parties.

Gunshots were fired using firearms to stop the protesters.

Roman Bepari and Tawhid Sanyamat, 20, were shot and seriously injured.

Locals rescued them in a critical condition and took them to Charmugaria Modern Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

Before this, during the quota reform movement, a college student Deepta Dey was the first to die on July 18.

Deepta and Tawhid's families have not filed any case so far.

Kajal Akhtar said, "My husband went to the procession on that day to express solidarity with the students. He was shot dead by a group of terrorists. We had been waiting, if someone comes forward.

But irony of fate, none came. So, the delay was made in filing the case. I want justice and capital punishment for those who killed my husband."

PS OC AHM Salauddin said, police are investigating the matter and trying to arrest the accused.

So far, one has been arrested, he added.
