Aparup Chowdhury elected UCB chairman

Aparup Chowdhury, an independent director of United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB), has been unanimously elected as the new chairman of the bank.

The election took place during a board meeting held at UCB's corporate office on Tuesday.

In addition, Bashir Ahmed has been appointed as the chairman of the bank's Executive Committee.

Aparup is a retired bureaucrat with 37 years of experience in various capacities, including field administration, policy formulation in different ministries and organisations, and leadership roles in corporate bodies.

Bashir, the newly-elected Executive Committee chairman, also serves as the managing director of Airmate Goodie Electrical Industries Ltd, among other companies.
