21 nabbed with drugs in 10 districts

A total of 21 people have been arrested along with drugs in separate drives in 10 districts - Gaibandha, Chapainawabganj, Rajshahi, Chattogram, Kurigram, Narayanganj, Cox's Bazar, Moulvibazar, Khagrachhari and Barishal, in recent times. 

GAIBANDHA: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), in a drive, arrested two alleged drug peddlers along with 43 kilograms of hemp from Sadar Upazila in the district on Thursday.

RAB-13 media wing confirmed the detention in a press release on Thursday afternoon.

The arrested persons are: Rejaul Islam, 45, hails from Baltari Village under Fulbari Upazila in Kurigram; and Saidul Islam, 44, from Ayerkhamar Village under Sadar Upazila in Lalmonirhat District.

According to the press release, acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Bhagabanpur area under Ramchandrapur Union of Gaibandha Sadar Upazila and challenged a CNG-run auto-rickshaw. While searching the three-wheeler, they recovered the hemp and arrested the duo in connection with smuggling the drugs.

The arrested two have been smuggling the drugs to different parts across the country and efforts are going on to arrest the others involved with them, the press release added.

CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Members of RAB arrested two drug peddlers along with 69.700 kilograms of hemp from Sadar Upazila in the district on Wednesday night.

The arrested men are: Md Nasir, 26, a resident of Sheikhtola Village under Shibganj Upazila in Chapainawabganj District; and Md Sajib Mia, 22, hails from Aksin Kollabari Village under Kosba Upazila in Brahmanbaria District.

Acting on a tip-off, an operation team of RAB-5 conducted a drive on the Chapainawabganj highway at around 11:30 pm and detained a pickup van with the contraband drugs, said the RAB officials.

The elite force members then arrested the duo.
 
Later on, the elite force handed them over to the Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station (PS) after filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act.

On the other hand, members of RAB recovered 1.1 kilograms of heroin from the Padma River bank at Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila on Monday night.

RAB said, acting on detective information, an operation team of the RAB-5 conducted a raid at the bank of Padma River in Goaldubi Village under Charbagdanga Union of Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila around 11:23 pm and recovered the contraband drugs.

None was arrested in this connection as the bearer fled away sensing the presence of the elite force, the sources said.

Later on, the RAB team deposited the seized goods with Chapainawabganj Sadar PS and filed a general diary in this connection, it added. 

RAJSHAHI: Two people were detained along with drugs in separate drives in the district in four days.

Members of RAB, in a drive, detained a drug peddler along with 719 bottles of phensedyl in Rajshahi early Wednesday.

The arrested person is Muntaz Mondal, 38, son of Chand Mandal,  a resident of Khanpur Village under Bagha Upazila in Rajshahi District.

RAB sources said that acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a sudden drive in a mango orchard in Khanpur Village at around 3:30 am, and arrested Muntaz along with the phensedyl red-handed.

After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Bagha PS, the arrested person along with the seized drugs was handed over to police, the RAB sources added.

Meanwhile, RAB members arrested a drug peddler along with 45.100 kilograms of hemp from Godagari Upazila in the district on Sunday afternoon.

The arrested person is Md Sumon Ali, 35, a resident of Pashchim Chandripur (Puranpur) Village under Shibganj Upazila in Chapainawabganj District.

RAB-5 sources said that acting on detective information, an operation team of the elite force conducted a drive in Bujruk Rajarampur Village under Godagari Upazila in the district at around 3:30 pm and nabbed Sumon Ali along with the hemp.

Later on, the elite force members handed him over to the police of Godagari PS after filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act against him, the RAB-5 sources added.

CHATTOGRAM: Six people were arrested along with drugs in separate drives in the district in three days.

Members of RAB, in a drive, arrested a drug peddler along with 64 kilograms of hemp from the district early Tuesday.

The arrested person is Md Mainuddin, 30, a resident of Aamner Khil Adarsha Village under Zorarganj PS in the district.

RAB-7 Senior Assistant Director (Media) Md Sharif-Ul-Alam confirmed the matter in a press release in the afternoon.

During the drive, the elite force also seized one vehicles used for transporting the drugs, said the press release.

According to RAB sources, acting on a tip-off, the elite force members was informed that drug dealers were staying in Feni Lalpol area under Feni Model PS at early hours on Tuesday. Then a team from the force conducted a drive in the site and arrested Md Mainuddin along with 64 kilograms of hemp hidden in a truck.

Later on, the elite force handed over the arrested man to Feni Model PS after after filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act against him, the press release added.

On the other hand, members of RAB, in separate drives, arrested five alleged drug peddlers along with 136 kilograms of hemp from the district on early Sunday.  

The arrested persons are: Md Nurul Azim, 24, Md Amin, 19, Md Omar Farooq, 50, Md Mustafa Kamal, 45, and Rahmat Ali, 23.

RAB-7 Senior Assistant Director (Media) Md Sharif-Ul-Alam confirmed the matter in a press release on Sunday afternoon. 

During the drive, the elite force members also seized two vehicles used for transporting the drugs, said the release.

According to RAB sources, acting on a tip-off, RAB-7 was informed in the small hours on Sunday that several drug dealers were staying in Faujdarhat area of Sitakunda PS in the district. Based on the information, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area, and arrested two people along with 60 kilograms of hemp hidden in a private car.

In another drive at Muradpur area of the city, two more people were arrested along with 53 kilograms of hemp. At that time, the RAB members have also seized a covered van used for smuggling the drugs, said the press release.

In addition, the RAB team conducted an anti-drug drive at Mahipal Soudia Bus Counter in Feni District on the same day, and arrested an alleged drug peddler along with 23 kilograms of hemp, reads the notification.

Later on, all of the five arrested people have been handed over to the PSs concerned to take legal actions after filing of separate cases under the Narcotics Control Act against them, the press release added.

NAGESHWARI, KURIGRAM: Three people were arrested along with 25 bottles of phensedyl from Nageshwari Upazila in the district on Sunday night. 

They were arrested along with the phensedyl from Balasipara area under Nageshwari Municipality at around 9:30 pm.

The arrested persons are: Saiful Islam, 52, son of Abbas Ali, a resident of Kutichandra area under Fulbari Upazila of the district; Satya Chandra Sen, 34, son of Alanga Chandra Sen of Ajoatari area; and Abdur Rashid, 40, son of Nazrul Islam, hails from Kalomati Harinchara area in Lalmonirhat District.

Police sources said that on information, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in Balasipara area under Nageshwari Municipality of the district at around 9:30 pm, and detained the trio along with the phensedyl.

After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Nageshwari PS, the arrested men were sent to jail on Monday morning following a court order.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) (Investigation) of Nageshwari PS Sarwar Parvez confirmed the matter.
 
NARAYANGANJ: Members of RAB-11, in a drive, arrested a listed drug dealer along with 185 bottles of phensedyl from Bandar Upazila in the district recently. 

The arrested person is Md Shah Alam, 42, son of late Abdul Majid and late Rukia Khatun couple, a resident of Rampur area under Lalmai Upazila in Cumilla District. He is a listed drug dealer. 

Deputy Director and Company Commander of CPC-1 of RAB-11 Major Anabil Imam confirmed the matter in a press release signed in the evening of August 17 last. 

According to the press release, on information, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Kuripara area under Bandar Upazila in the district on August 17 last, and detained Shah Alam.
 
The RAB members also recovered 185 bottles of phensedyl from the possession of Shah Alam and seized a microbus used to smuggle the drugs. 

After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Bandar PS, the arrested man was handed over to police for taking further action, the press release added. 
   
COX'S BAZAR: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), in a drive, arrested a man along with 29,800 yaba tablets from Ukhiya Upazila in the district recently. 

The arrested person is Mosharraf, son of Tofayel Ahmed, a resident of Pashchim Ratna Village under Ratna Palang Union in the upazila. 

Ramu 30 BGB Commander Lt Col Syed Wahiduzzaman Tanzid confirmed the matter in a press release. 

According to the press release, on information, a team of the BGB set up a cheque post in Marichya area on the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf highway of the upazila, and halted a motorcycle on suspicion. 

The team then found 29,800 yaba tablets hidden inside the oil tank of the motorcycle and arrested the motorcyclist Mosharraf.
The arrested confessed of drugs dealing in the district for a long time during the primary interrogation. 

After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Ukhiya PS, the arrested man was handed over to the police, the BGB press release added.

SREEMANGAL, MOULVIBAZAR: Bangladesh Army, in a drive, arrested a local leader of Awami League (AL) along with foreign liquor from Sreemangal Upazila of the district recently.

The arrested person is Mithun Pal, son of Amalendu Pal, a resident of Harinakandi area under Ashidron Union in the upazila. He was posted as the vice-publication and publicity secretary of the upazila unit of the AL.  

It was known that on information, a team of Bangladesh Army led by Major Mezba and Imran conducted a drive in Sreemangal Club located in Uttarsuri area of the upazila, and recovered the illegal foreign liquor, 345 US dollars, Tk 45,000 in cash and birth control pills.

The Army personnel also arrested Mithun Pal from there at that time.

After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Sreemangal PS, the arrested was then handed over to police.

Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate of the upazila administration Salauddin Biswas was also present during the drive.

DIGHINALA, KHAGRACHHARI: Students apprehended a woman and her son along with hemp from Dighinala Upazila of the district recently.

They were then handed over to the police.
 
The arrested persons are: Mst Rabeya, 60, and her son Md Mukhtar Hossain Babu, 18, residents of Bancha Merung area under Merung Union in the upazila. Both of them are professional drug dealers. 

It was known that students along with local people caught Rabeya and her son Mukhtar Hossain Babu in Bancha Merung area under Merung Union of the upazila with hemp. 

The students, later, handed the arrested over to the police. 

After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Dighinala PS, the arrested mother and son were sent to jail following a court order.

Dighinala PS OC Md Nurul Haque confirmed the matter.

BARISHAL: A young man was caught along with about five kilograms of hemp by the students in the city recently. 

The apprehended youth is Sumon Hawlader Noyon, 27, son of Jalil Hawlader, a resident of Habinagar area under Shayestabad Union in Sadar Upazila of the district.

He was, later, handed over to the police of Barishal Kotwali Model PS.

Police sources said that a group of students halted a rickshaw on suspicion in TTC road area of the city. The students then found four kilograms and nine hundred grams of hemp from the possession of the passenger of the rickshaw, and caught him.
 
They then handed over Sumon Hawlader Noyon to Kotwali Model PS with the help of the BGB. 

A case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed with Kotwali Model PS against him in this connection.
Kotwali Model PS OC Mostafizur Rahman confirmed the matter.
