A man was arrested for raping his sister in law's 12-year-old girl at Birol upazila in Dinajpur district on Thursday.
The arrested man is Nur Nabi, 50, a resident of Jogotpur village under Ranipukur union in the upazila.
It was learnt that the victim has been living Nur Nabi's house as her mother married to other place when she was six-year-old.
At around 11:00 PM On Wednesday ( August 21), Nur Nabi entered the victim's house and tried to violate her forcefully before leaving the place as the victim screamed.
After knowing this incident, locals detained the accused and handed him to the police.
Apel Mahmud, maternal uncle of the victim, filed a case against Nur Nabi with Birol Police Station under oppression of women and children act.
Babul Chandra Roy, sub-inspector of Jogotpur Police Investigation Center, confirm the arrest news.
The accused was sent to jail on Friday afternoon, the police official added.
