The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to launch an investigation against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's deputy press secretary Ashraful Alam Khokon on charge of accumulating illegal wealth.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the ACC held at its office in the capital on Tuesday (August 20).
There are allegations when Ashraful Alam Khokon was former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's deputy press secretary, he was allegedly involved in making money through offering posts in Awami League. He was also involved in gold smuggling and money laundering.
Khokon also allegedly took financial benefits from different business conglomerates like Max Group and Nagad. He also operated illegal VoIP business and earned hundreds of crores of taka through various irregularities and corruption.
The former deputy press secretary also accumulated wealth in his and his family members names at home and abroad.
In February 2021, Ashraful Alam Khokon was relieved of the post of deputy press secretary.
