Continuous heavy rainfall combined with an onrush of water from upstream regions has led to severe flooding in Parshuram and Fulgazi upazilas of Feni.

Approximately 70 villages are now underwater as the Muhuri River has crossed danger level. This marks the third phase of flooding in the area since July 2.

The flooding has caused significant disruption, with several parts of the Feni-Parshuram road submerged, cutting off road communication in the region.

Local officials, including the Upazila Nirbahi Officers of Parshuram and Fulgazi, alongside the Water Development Board, confirmed the widespread inundation on Tuesday.

In Parshuram upazila, breaches in embankments and relentless rains have submerged 40 villages, affecting about 10,000 families. The floodwaters have inundated the municipal area and three unions, leaving many residents stranded.

In Fulgazi upazila, the rising waters of the Muhuri, Silonia, and Kohua rivers have flooded 30 villages, impacting around 4,000 families. Most roads in these areas are under water, creating severe hardships for the local population.

According to the Water Development Board, the Muhuri River's water level is currently 55 centimeters above the danger mark. The local administration is on high alert and is preparing to manage the ongoing flood crisis.

Tania Bhuiyan, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Fulgazi, reported that 30 villages in Fulgazi Union, Munshihat Union, and Amjadahat Union have been flooded due to rising waters of the Muhuri, Silonia, and Kohua rivers.

Afroza Habib, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Parshuram, noted that prior to the flood, there were already 12 breaches in the embankments. The situation has now worsened, with nearly 40 villages in Parshuram, including those in Parshuram Municipality and surrounding unions like Chitholia and Boxmohammad, now submerged.

The flooding has also affected the Feni Bilonia regional highway, which is submerged in parts, further isolating the affected areas.

Deputy Commissioner Shahina Akhtar stated that local authorities are closely monitoring the flood situation and are actively working to provide relief and address the crisis.
