Hasina, Quader, Kamal sued in two murder cases

Two separate cases were filed against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal over the killing of two individuals in Mirpur and Sher-e-Bangla area of the capital during the Quota Reform Movement last month.

the killings of one Liton Hasan Lalu alias Hasan in the capital's Mirpur area and one Tarik Hossain in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area during the recent anti- discrimination students' movement.

Among the cases, victim Liton Hasan Lalu alias Hasan's brother Milon filed a case against 147
including the Sheikh Hasina with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan.

Other accused in the case include former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, former lawmaker and Juba League General Secretary Mainul Hossain Nikhil, Ilias Mollah, Kamal Ahmed Mazumder, former inspector general of police (IGP) Abdullah Al Mamun, former DMP commissioner Habibur Rahman, former DIG Harun-Ur Rashid, and former additional joint commissioner Biplob Kumar Sarker.

According to the case statement, on August 4, Hasan participated in a peaceful movement by students and citizens. At around 2pm, a group of unidentified people comprising 200 to 300 opened fire on the protesters under the orders of Sheikh Hasina along with other accused.

Liton Hasan was shot during the incident and later died on August 7 while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital (NINS) in Agargaon.

Meanwhile, victim Tarik Hossain's mother Fidushi Khatun filed a case against 13 including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud and state minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat.

According to the case documents, Tarik was shot by unidentified miscreants in front of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on August 5 and succumbed to his injuries on August 9 at
Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
