The interim government has suspended all negotiations, selections, and procurements for power and energy projects under the much-talked about Quick Enhancement of Electricity and Energy Supply (Special Provision) Act 2010.
Adviser for Power, Energy, Road Transport, and Bridges Dr Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan told newsmen in his office in the secretariat on Sunday, according to a release.
All activities under the already linked deals under the special law, known as 'black law' in the power and energy sector will, however, be continued, he said on his first day in office after swearing in as the adviser of the new interim government headed by Nobel Laureate Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus.
"We shall, however, review the terms and conditions of the deals already inked under the law," said Fouzul Kabir.
Fauzul Kabir Khan said BERC's recent amendment that allows the government to arbitrarily raise power and gas prices will remain suspended for now.
It means the government will not frequently raise power and gas prices using that clause of the BERC Law.
He also said that the Ministry also decided to suspend all projects which are in the process of being awarded under the Speedy Power and Energy Supply (Special) Act 2010.
For now, no further project will be processed under this law, he told reporters after the meeting.
This government has taken responsibility to remain watchful of public expectations and perceptions, he said. The council of advisers will take a final decision on the two laws later, he added.
