Riaz Hossain, a student of Barisal who got bullet-ridden during the recent Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at Jhigatola in the capital died at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Saturday afternoon after he underwent treatment there over the last two weeks.
Riaz died at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the DMCH at about 3:45pm on Saturday (August 17).
He was buried at his family graveyard at his village home after Zohr prayer on Sunday, said his elder brother Rezaul Karim.
He said the 23-year-old Riaz, son of Mahmudul Huq Rari of village Lakkhipur under Hijla upazila in Barisal district, had been staying at Jhigatola with his classmates from July 31 last. He lived at his aunt Tanny Akter's house at Hazaribagh Section in the capital. He was a B.A. final year student at Barisal Government Muladi College.
Deceased Riaz's elder brother Rezaul Karim said Riaz studied at degree level at a college in his village. Appearing at the examinations, he used to come back in Dhaka. He lived at his aunt's house at Sectioon.
Riaz used to work at his aunt's shop over the last four years. He got bullet-ridden during clashes between students and police at Jhigatola area in the capital in the early afternoon on August 4. Other students then admitted the injured Riaz to the DMCH along with other wounded students.
He was then admitted to the DMCH where he succumbed after two weeks.
DMCH police camp in-charge (Inspector) Md Bacchu Mia said the victim got bullet-ridden on his head.
The body was handed over to the family after postmortem.
