Bullet-ridden student Riaz dies at DMCH

A student who got bullet-ridden at Jhigatola in the capital during the recent Anti-Discrimination Student Movement died at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Saturday while underwent treatment there.

Riaz died at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the DMCH at about 3:45pm on Saturday (August 17).

The 23-year-old Riaz was the son of Mahmudul Huq of village Lakkhipur under Hijla upazila in Barisal district. He lived at his aunt Tanny Akter's house at Hazaribagh Section in the capital. He was a B.A. final year student at Barisal Government Muladi College.

Deceased Riaz's elder brother Rezaul Karim said Riaz studied at degree level at a college in his village. Appearing at the examinations, he used to come back in Dhaka. He lived at his aunt's house at Sectioon. Riaz's used to work at his aunt's shop over the last four years. He got bullet-ridden during clashes during students and police at Jhigatola area in the early afternoon on August 4 last. Other students then admitted the injured Riaz to the DMCH along with other wounded students.

DMCH police camp in-charge (Inspector) Md Bacchu Mia said the victim got bullet-ridden on his head. The body was kept at the morgue.
