Adilur Rahman Khan, Adviser to the newly formed Interim Government for industries ministry has said that the government will give utmost importance to ensuring gas supply to maintain normal production in the industries.

"The problems in fertilizer production would be addressed to reduce import dependency, which would significantly save foreign currency," he said.

The adviser was speaking to reporters after a two-hour-long meeting with senior officials of the Ministry of Industries at the Secretariat in the city.

Adilur also said work will be done to improve the leather industry in Savar and ensure environmental compliance in the ship-breaking industry.

He said the various institutions under the Ministry of Industries are operating at a loss, and proper measures will be taken to identify the issues and make these institutions profitable.

"There is no choice but to be stringent against corruption. We have taken on this responsibility through much sacrifice. There is no question of allowing new corruption to occur," he added.

He also has spoken of zero tolerance against corruption in his ministry.

He stated his position after a meeting with the industries ministry officials on Saturday afternoon. He said he would work every day at this time. He said the interim government has taken responsibility through a bloody mass movement and vowed to end corruption at every level.

"We have come to solve alleged corruption in the ministry including the leather industry at Savar. We will work from a strict position to implement the mandate of the students' movement," he added.

He said solving gas crisis in industries to ensure production would get priority. Because, due to gas shortage, production not only in leather factories but also in fertilizer factories is facing disruption on daily basis.
