A man was killed in a clash between supporters of Awami League and BNP at Sadekpur Union of Bhairab Upazila in Kishoreganj district on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Zahirullah, 50, son of Sahu Mia from the same village. It was claimed that Zahirullah was known to be a supporter of Shafayet Ullah.
Bhairab Upazila Health Complex Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Bulbul Ahmed confirmed that Zahirullah was pierced by a spear and had died before arriving at the hospital.

The incident occurred in Mendipur village, involving supporters of Sheikh Shafayet Ullah, an executive committee member of the upazila Awami League, and Tofazzal Hossain, a former vice-president of the upazila BNP.

According to local sources, Shafayet Ullah is incumbent chaiman of Sadekpur Union Parishad, elected with the boat symbol. Meanwhile, Tofazzal Hossain, a former chairman of the same union, has been in a long-standing rivalry with Shafayet Ullah, leading to frequent clashes between their supporters.

In sequel to it, both groups engaged in a violent clash in the afternoon when Zahirullah was fatally stabbed in his chest with a spear.

Attempts to reach Shafayet Ullah for comments were unsuccessful. However, his supporters claimed that Tofazzal Hossain’s followers took advantage of the current situation to attack Awami League supporters' homes, during which Zahirullah was killed by a spear.

Tofazzal Hossain denied any involvement in the clash, stating that the opposing party was falsely accusing him to implicate him in a murder case.

Efforts to contact officer-in-charge of Bhairab Police Station Shafiqul Islam were also unsuccessful.
