Rakib Hasan Arnob, one of the Coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Rajshahi, was assaulted by protesters on Saturday as he called off the ongoing students movement.

On July 18, Arnob announced suspension of the movement.

Arnob again joined the anti-government movement on August 3 in front of the Rail Gate area in the city. At that time, the agitators chased and severely beat up Arnob by chanting - 'Fake-Fake.'

He was subsequently rescued and admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Arnob, hailing from Mohishbathan area in the city, is former President of Chhatra Maitree's Dhaka Metropolitan branch.

On July 18, Arnob was leading the 'complete shutdown' programme announced by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

On that day, when the protesters tried to gather in Saheb Bazar and Malopara areas, they were dispersed by the activists of Chhatra League and Jubo League.

During this time, Arnob suddenly urged protesters to vacate the Zero Point from the Awami League rally.

When contacted, Arnob declined to comment.

His father Selim Monwar said Arnob was taking rest at home after receiving primary treatment.
