Internet shutdown costs E-Commerce sector over Tk 1700cr

The E-Commerce Associa-tion of Bangladesh (E-CAB) said that due to the shutdown of the Internet and Facebook, the amount of loss in the country's e-commerce sector in the last 13 days may exceed Tk 1,700 crore. In the first 10 days, the loss was Tk 1,400 crore. 

President Shami Kaiser gave this information at a press conference in the capital on Wednesday. 

In the press conference, it was informed that among the major sectors, the losses incurred in 10 days included Tk 600 crore in the e-commerce sector, Tk 300 crore in the e-tourism sector, and Tk 100 crore in the e-logistics sector. 

ECAB President Shami Kaiser said, "The most affected are the small and medium entrepreneurs centered on Facebook. Many of them have faced various crises such as closing their businesses and paying the salaries of their employees. We request the government to provide low-interest and collateral-free loans to help them recover."
