Md Matiur Rahman, Commissioner of the Internal Resources Division (IRD) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) went on voluntary retirement on Wednesday (July 31).

He was the president of the Customs, Excise & VAT Appellate Tribunal of the NBR.
An order was issued by the Internal Resources Division (IRD) on Wednesday sending him on voluntary retirement.

It stated that Md Matiur Rahman (ID No. 300060), Commissioner of the Internal Resources Division (IRD), applied for voluntary retirement on completion of 25 years of service.

Based on his application, he was given voluntary retirement without post retirement leave (LPR), lump-sum grant and pension from August 29, 2024 next as per Section 44 (1) and Section 51 of the Government Service Rules 2018.

Matiur came to the limelight after his son Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat posted a photo of a sacrificial goat on social media claiming to have bought it for Tk 15 lakh from Sadique Agro at Mohammadpur in the capital ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha last month. It was later known that Ifat was the son of Matiur Rahman. At one stage, Matiur even denied that Ifat was his son. He then threatened to file a case under the Cyber Security Act against trolling him on social media.

This also raised questions about the income of this Grade-1 NBR official, who had a basic monthly salary of Tk 78,000.

Earlier this month, a Dhaka court ordered confiscation of all moveable and immovable properties of Matiur  Rahman and his family members, in connection with corruption allegations against them.

On June 24, a Dhaka court issued a travel ban on Matiur and his family members.

Matiur is currently under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission for possessing undisclosed assets.

He also has substantial investments in the capital market, contributing significantly to his wealth accumulation.
