Two men were murdered in separate incidents in two districts - Jashore and Narayanganj, on Saturday.

JASHORE: An auto-van driver was hacked to death in Chaugachha Upazila of the district on Saturday evening over a trivial matter.

The incident took place at around 7:30 pm in front of the Huda Chaugachha Jumma Mosque in Huda Chaugachha area under Chaugachha Municipality.

The deceased was identified as Ali Hossain Khokhon, 28, son of late Abdul Mazid, a resident of the area.

Saiful Islam, elder brother of the deceased, said, "Ali Hossain had been mentally disabled for about four years. Recently, he recovered from the illness and started driving an auto-van for livelihood. On Saturday afternoon, Ashraf, a resident of the area, called Ali insane. Then, Ali Hussain got down from the van and locked in an altercation with Ashraf."

"As a sequel to it, Ashraf along with his younger brother and brother-in-law hacked Ali Hossain with machetes in the area in the evening, leaving him critically injured."

Ali Hossain was then rescued and taken to Chaugachha Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead at around 7:45 pm, Saiful Islam added.
Being informed, police recovered the body.

Officer-in-Charge of Chaugachha Police Station Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are trying to arrest those involved in the murder and legal actions would be taken in this regard.

NARAYANGANJ: A young man was shot to death following a dispute over gambling in Sonargaon Upazila of the district on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Rakib Hossain, 25, a resident of Baliapara Village in Araihazar Upazila of the district.

He succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) at around 2 pm while undergoing treatment.

According to police and local sources, one Ali Hossain's residence in the upazila has been known as a hub for illegal gambling and drug activities. Rakib was involved in gambling on Saturday morning.

At that time, accused Masud, a known criminal from Baliapara, went there and locked into an argument with Rakib over gambling debts. During the argument, Masud pulled out a pistol and shot Rakib in the chest at around 11:30 am.

Rakib was then rescued and taken to nearby Pakunda Community Clinic and then shifted to the DMCH, where he died at around 2 pm.

Confirming the incident, Tatltala Police Outpost In-Charge Md Saiful Islam said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Filing of a murder case is underway in this regard, the police official added.
