Adviser to prime Minister on Private sector Industry and Investment Salman F Rahman said traders have demanded an alternative internet network to avoid future communication disruption during unrest.
He has also expressed the hope that curfew will be lifted within next 7 days. He made the remark to reporters after an exchange of views with businessmen at Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) building in Agargaon on Sunday.
He said curfew is being relaxed every day and hopefully will over in next 7 days, Inshallah. He further said traders have asked for a separate internet network to face future crisis.
Stating that quota reform movement has caused damage to business in Dhaka and its surrounding districts, he said and asked all sectoral people to report the amount of loss in business in writing.
At the end of the discussion, Salman F Rahman said, "We have identified five problems. Traders spoke about the problem at Chattogram port. We will hold a meeting with those concerned in future.
The second problem they say is with NBR. I will also have a meeting with NBR. Third meeting will be held with Bangladesh Bank and Ministry of Finance."
"There are lot of issues in the budget that may cause problems for traders. That can be resolved. In addition, businessmen talked about problems in banking, internet and electricity-fuel.
Salman F Rahman said, 4G network has been reopened. No business is possible without internet now. The decisions taken by the Prime Minister is slowly bringing normalcy in the country.
He said traders will report the amount of loss in the concerned sector. There was not much damage outside Dhaka. Merchants will notify us in writing.
The adviser said if the general system of Internet is damaged or shut down for some reason, then businessmen have suggested whether a standby system can be put at work for businessmen so that they can continue business. There has been a suggestion whether it is possible to create an internet system for business.
Mentioning that businessmen are with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said, businessmen can overcome this situation. The government will provide all kinds of assistance to businessmen.
Lies and rumors about the movement have been spread in social media and by outside social media; he said adding it has caused damage to the country's image. It must be quickly repaired now.
That's why we need to restore normalcy first. If everything is normal, the image damage will recover soon.
FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam said businesses need long-term support from the government to recover from damages caused during quota reform protest.
He said business leaders would also meet Bangladesh Bank governor and the Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to sort out new problems. Alam urged the government to fully resume activities in Chattogram and other sea ports.
State Minister for Information and Communication Junaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid, State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu and heads of top industrial groups were present in the meeting.
