KHAGRACHHARI, July 27: An organiser of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) was shot dead at Santi Bikash Karbaripara in Dighinala upazila here early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Junel Chakma, 31, organiser of Tarabunia unit of UPDF (Prasit Group). He was the son of Tapta Kanchan Chakma, a resident of Amtoli village.
Junel recently joined the UPDF from Democratic Jubo Forum, it was learned. During the killing, Junel was staying at the house of Master Lalit Chakma at Kangarima Chara area.
According to Dighinala Police Station OC Nurul Haque, at about 4:00am, some armed unidentified people entered the house of Master Lalit Chakma and shot Junel. After that, they immediately fled the scene and Junel died on the spot.
However, Angya Marma, district organiser of UPDF, blamed Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti (PCJSS-Santu group) for the killing and demanded justice.
