A Dhaka court on Tuesday ordered officials concerned to attach 137.28 decimals land , 8,070 square feet commercial space of a building with three car parking space and freeze 19 beneficiary (BO) accounts of NBRs Matiur Rahman and his family members in the third phase.
The other family members are Matiurs second wife Shammi Akhter Sheuly, her brother Kaiyum Hawladar and his son Ahmed Taufiqur Rahman.
Judge Tasleem Arif of Ninth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge court of Dhaka passed the order after Anti-Corruption Commission Deputy Director Md Anowar Hossain, also the enquiry officer, prayed to the court in this regard.
ACC Public Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir confirmed the matter to the Daily Observer on Tuesday evening.
In the application, the ACC official said Matiur and his family members were attempting to transfer the properties and to launder the money. So, an order was needed to prevent them from making such attempts.
The immovable properties are a total of 137.28 decimals in Gazipur and Tongi and 8,070 square feet commercial space located in Dhakas Basundhara residential area.
The court ordered to seize 19 beneficiary owners (BO) accounts of different brokerage houses.
On July 11 another Dhaka court ordered officials concerned to attach 71 bigha of land, four flats and freeze 116 banks accounts bearing Tk 13.4 crore of NBRs Matiur Rahman and his family members in the second phase.
In the first phase the same court on July 4 ordered attachment of four flats and 866 decimals of immovable property owned by Matiur Rahman.
Earlier on June 24, the same court issued a travel ban on Matiur, his wife Laila and son Taufiqur.
Earlier, the ACC formed a three-member committee to enquire into the allegations brought against them over amassing a huge amount of wealth through illegal means.
The controversy surrounding Matiur intensified after a goat scam involving his son, Ifat Rahman. Ifat purchased a sacrificial goat for a staggering Tk 15 lakh, sparking widespread curiosity and outrage on social media about the source of such a large sum of money.
Matiur Rahman was the former president of the National Board of Revenues (NBR) Customs, Excise, and VAT Appellate Tribunal.
The exorbitant price of the goat sparked widespread attention, along with a mix of curiosity and controversy.
However, Matiur Rahman denied these claims, saying, "Iffat, the person being talked about, is neither my son nor even a relative or acquaintance. My only sons name is Toufiqur Rahman. I will formally protest these rumours."
Later all the media revealed that Iffat is his son from his second wife.
