Eden College leftist leader among several injured in BCL attack

At least five to seven people, including 28-year-old Shahinur Shumi - the president of the Eden College branch of the Samajtantrik Chhatra Front - have been injured in an attack by the colleges Chhatra League unit.
The attack occurred on Monday afternoon, the injured said. Sumi was brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 2pm.
The Samajtantrik Chhatra Front was to conduct a quota reform demonstration in front of the Raju Sculpture when the attack occurred, said Rafiquzzaman Farid, the organisations general secretary.
As the organisations members were gathering, they were attacked by 20-30 Chhatra League activists with hot water and beaten.
Sumi and several others were injured, said Farid, who had accompanied them to the hospital.
Sumi was receiving treatment at the Dhaka Medical College One-Stop Emergency Centre, said Inspector Bachchu Mia of the DMC Police Outpost. —bdnews24.com
