HC questions 40pc dependent quota in railway jobs

The High Court has issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain as to why it shall not declare contradictory with the constitution a provision of 40 per cent dependent quota in the Bangladesh Railway jobs from 14th grade to 20th grade.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolan issued the rule after a hearing on a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Md Rokonuzzaman.

The court asked the railways secretary and law and justice division secretary to reply the rule within the next 10 days. Advocate Md Rokonuzzaman filed the writ petition with the High Court on May 26. He himself held the hearing on behalf of the petition. Deputy Attorney General Tushar Kanti Roy.
