Professor Dr. Sadeka Halim, Vice-Chancellor of Jagannath University, recently affirmed that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahmans commitment to justice, the fundamental tenet of socialism, were the driving force behind the introduction of the quota system.
Speaking at the orientation and scholarship award ceremony for new students at Manarat International University on Saturday afternoon, Dr. Sadeka Halim emphasized that Bangabandhus introduction of the freedom fighter quota was grounded in principles of fairness and justice.
Dr. Sadeka Halim expressed concern over the current student protests, noting the ambiguity surrounding whether the movement seeks the abolition or the reform of the quota system.
She pointed out that the 2018 abolition of the quota system led to a noticeable decline in the female student participation, whereas the system once provided greater opportunities for women.
As a result, women in 27 districts now face significant disadvantages in accessing educational opportunities.
Professor Dr. Abdus Sabur Khan, Acting Vice-Chancellor of Manarat International University, highlighted the institutions longstanding commitment to educational excellence.
He noted that for nearly two decades, the university had been dedicated to providing high-quality education and awarding scholarships to deserving students, with an annual scholarship fund of 251,100 Taka.
The ceremony was attended by the universitys Treasurer, Registrar, Proctor, faculty members, and students from various departments.
