The deceased Smriti Akter, 22, wife of Qatar expatriate Amin Bhuiyan, and daughter of Manik Mia from Haluyapara area of Ward 8 in Katiadi municipality.
According to locals, Smriti married Amin Bhuiyan four years ago. Amin returned to Qatar seven months ago after a brief visit, leaving Smriti at her in-laws’ home. She had since been living with her parents.
On Friday morning, locals spotted the beheaded body of Smriti in the abandoned cornfield in Haluyapara and informed police.
Local authorities were alerted, and the police arrived to recover the body.
Confirming the matter, Assistant Superintendent of Police of Hossainpur Circle, Sujan Chandra Sarkar, upon recieving the information police rushed there and recovered the body from the spot.
Later, the body was sent to Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy and no formal complaints have been lodged yet. However, legal procedures are underway in this regard, added the police official.
