The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday sent letters to the Election Commission (EC) and the Department of Immigration and Passports seeking information about the National Identity (NID) cards and passports of former National Board of Revenue official Matiur Rahman, his two wives and two children.
According to the ACC sources, the commission sent separate letters requesting the Election Commission and the Department of Immigration and Passports for the information of Matiur Rahman and his family members.
Earlier on July 2, the commission issued notices to former member of National Board of Revenue Matiur Rahman, his two wives, and children to submit their wealth statements.
ACC Secretary Khorsheda Yasmin told media that the commission sought wealth statements of Matiur Rahman, his first wife Laila Kaniz, her children Ahmed Taufiqur Rahman Arnab, Farzana Rahman Ipsita, and second wife Shammi Akhtar Shivli.
According to the notices, on the basis of information, the ACC has come to believe that Matiur owns a large amount of assets in his name and the names of others beyond known sources of income.
All movable and immovable assets, liabilities, sources of income and the details of their acquisition shall be submitted to the commission.
Matiur recently came to the limelight after his son from his second marriage attempted to purchase a goat for Tk 15 lakh ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
The ACC is currently investigating the wealth of Matiur, who was allegedly possessing undisclosed assets and he had constructed two luxury duplex houses-one for his first wife and another for his second wifes mother.
