A pregnant woman and her brother were killed as a covered van crashed an autorickshaw on the Begumganj-Sonaimuri regional highway at Sonaimuri upazila in
Noakhali district on Friday afternoon.
The
accident occurred around 12.45pm on Friday in front of Madina Masque adjacent to Bagadia North bridge of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Beuty Akter, 24, abd his brother Md Easin, 17, children of late Bashir Ullah, and residents of Bagadia village under ward No. 9 in Bajra union of the upazila.
According to the family members and witnesses, Beauty along with her brother was going to visit a doctor at Sonaimuri Bazaar, riding on a battery-operated autorickshaw. On the way, a speeding covered-van from Cumilla rammed the autorickshaw when the driver of the vehicle (nosimon) trying to cross the regional highway, leaving the siblings dead on the spot.
Locals, however, rescued them and took to Sonaimuri Upazila Health Complex where the physicians declared the duo dead.
Chandraganj Highway Police Station officer-in-charge Ruhul Amin confirmed the deaths and said,"Being informed, police seized the both vehicles from the spot and a case was being filed in this regard."
