Cricketers return home after disappointing WC mission

Taskin urged fans to keep trust on them

Players of the Bangladesh national cricket team returned home after a disappointing campaign in the T20 World Cup. The team arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday morning at 9:07am on an Emirates flight.
 
The foreign coaches did not accompany the team to Bangladesh as head coach Chandika Hathurusingha and the rest of the coaching staff went on vacation to their respective countries after the World Cup.

They are scheduled to return to Bangladesh in the third week of next month. Additionally, Shakib Al Hasan returned home a day earlier, on Thursday.

Bangladesh began their World Cup journey with a two-wicket win over Sri Lanka and secured a spot in the Super 8 phase by beating the Netherlands and Nepal.

They had opportunities to beat South Africa in the group stage and could have reached the semifinals by defeating Afghanistan in their final Super 8 match if their batters had performed better.

Unfortunately, Tanzid Tamim, Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah struggled to contribute throughout the tournament.

As a representative of the team, Taskin Ahmed, who served as the vice-captain during the World Cup, addressed the media at the airport and urged the countrymen to keep faith in the team. He said, "There are some positive aspects. It is normal for us to be disappointed. We will give you a big win again. Trust us, we will try our best."

"I have never seen such a prolonged period of poor batting for the Bangladesh team in my 10-year career. I hope we will overcome this soon," he added. "There are positive aspects too. We got three wins in the T20 World Cup this time. There are positives, but the number of negatives is slightly higher."

Bangladesh could have advanced to the semifinals if they had reached their target in 12.1 overs in the match against Afghanistan. They could not achieve this and ultimately lost the match.

Reflecting on this disappointing match, Taskin said, "I think we could have done better. We tried to win within 12 overs, but when we realized it was not possible, everyone tried to remain calm."

The performances of Shakib and Mahmudullah also disappointed Taskin. "Having two senior cricketers out of form has definitely affected the team," he said.
