Intl Open Veteran Athletics Cship in Dhaka for the first time

The International Open Veteran Athletics Championship is set to be held in Dhaka for the first time. The Bangladesh Veteran Athletes Association (BVAA), with assistance from the Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF), is arranging the championship on the track at Bangabandhu National Stadium from 27 to 29 June.

The meet is to be participated by 345 athletes and 60 coaches and officials from six countries of South Asia. The athletes aged 35 to 70, splitting into two categories and 15 age groups, will take part there. Bangladesh has registered 232 veteran athletes while India registered 60, Sri Lanka 15, Nepal seven, the Maldives two, and Pakistan registered one. A total of 120 technical officials will conduct the games.

The BAF vice-president and Bangladesh Masters Athletics Association (BMAA) president Nur Uddin Chowdhury, MP, will inaugurate the championship as the chief guest on 27 June at 3:00 PM. The Commissioner of Jessore Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate M Kamruzzaman and BAF general secretary Adv Abdur Rakib Montu will be there as special guests.  

Faruqul Islam, an executive member of the federation and the national director of Special Olympics Bangladesh, will preside over the opening programme.

In this regard, a press meet was held at the conference room of Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka on Tuesday.
