Five drown in Netrakona

Five individuals, including four children, drowned at two upazilas of Netrakona district on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Taskin, 7, son of Md. Al Mamun from Satpai area in Netrakona Sadar upazila, Noman, 8, son of Mohammad Ali from Panchmargenda village in Dhalamulgaw union; and Salma Akter, 21, wife of Mofizul Islam from Bishkakuni union, Jahangir, 5, son of Zahirul Islam from Kullatali village in Mymensingh's Gauripur upazila and Afia Khatun, 2, daughter of Imran Mia from Shasharpur area in Kullagora union.
In Purbadhala Upazila:

According to local sources, Taskin along with his family members went to maternal grandfather's house at Panchmargenda village on Saturday evening. Taskin went out to play with his friend Noman and did not return for a long time, prompting their relatives to search for them. Despite announcements over loudspeakers, the children were not found. On Sunday morning around 10am, the family members found their bodies floating in the Deira River, approximately 300 meters from the house.

In a separate incident, Salma Akter, who was visiting her father's house at Tikuria village of Agia union, slipped into a pond while washing her face on Saturday morning. When she did not return home for a long time, her mother, Josna Begum, and other family members found her floating in the pond.

They took her to Purbadhala Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.

Confirming the death matters, Purbadhala Police Station officer-in-charge Muhammad Rashedul Islam stated that separate unnatural death cases have been filed regarding these incidents.

In Durgapur Upazila:

Jahangir along with grandmother went to visit her granfather's house in Duragpur. On Sunday morning, Jahangir went to the river to bathe with two other children.

During their bath, Jahangir drowned and the other children immediately informed the family. Family members recovered Jahangir's body from the river and rushed him to the upazila health complex, where doctors declared him dead.

In a separate incident, Afia Khatun drowned in a pond near her house around 1pm on Sunday while her family members were busy at work.

The family found her floating in the pond after noticing her absence and took to Duragpur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors also declared her dead.

Duragpur Police Station officer-in-charge Uttam Chandra Deb confirmed the death matters.
