PIROJPUR, June 23: Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) in the district is popular among admission-seeking students.
For 160 seats of four departments under town faculties, 2,075 students applied, meaning 13 candidates for one seat. This is higher than any other contemporary new generation university of the country, said Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university Professor Dr Kazi Saifuddin.
He made the remark while addressing a view-exchange meeting with members of Pirojpur Press Club on Saturday noon at his office.
On August 1, the orientation class will start for the current academic year; the classes will be conducted at a rental four-storey building near the present administrative building, he added.
Already 16 qualified teachers and necessary staffs have been recruited.
In a reply to a query, VC said, April 13 (2022) will be observed as university day.
For the current fiscal year, Tk 8,55,25,000 has been allocated.
The Ministry of Finance has approved Tk 4,86,66,000 for detail project proposal DPP-1.
"Gradually we are moving ahead as per direction of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The DPP-1 includes total 775 acres of land acquisition, land development, boundary wall construction, academic and conceptual master plan, electricity, water supply and internal road communications," he added.
VC further said, primarily students are getting admitted into Department of Mathematics, Department of Psychology, Department of Statistics under the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering and Technology Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE).
Newly requited teachers, and staff-members were present at the function.
