A valiant
freedom fighter of
Netrakona's Durgapur upazila was laid to rest with state honours on Friday morning.
Abdul Haque, 73, was given a guard of honour after his Janaza (funeral prayers) at his home of Kamarkhali village under Kullagora union.
Durgapur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) M. Rakibul Ahsan, former Deputy Commander of the Upazila Freedom Fighters’ Association Bir Muktijoddha Sohrab Hossain Talukdar, freedom fighters-- Wahed Ali, Abdul Jabbar Mal, Sirajul Islam, Abdul Khaleq among others, participated in the funeral.
Abdul Haque had been suffering from a serious illness and passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka.
He left behind four sons, three daughters, and numerous admirers.
After the funeral, many paid their last respects. Among those who expressed their condolences were --local MP Alhaj Mostaq Ahmed Ruhi, former MP Chhabi Biswas, a member of the Central Executive Committee of Bangladesh Awami League Raymond Areng, Upazila Parishad Chairman Nazmul Hasan Nira (Saddam Akinji), former Chairman Jhuma Talukdar, Upazila Awami League President Osman Gani Talukdar, General Secretary Shafiqul Islam Shafiq, the brave freedom fighters of the Upazila Freedom Fighters Command, UP Chairman Abdul Awal, and various other organizations.
Following the state honors and a funeral prayer, he was buried in his family graveyard.
