As the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Adha approaches, the bustling city of Dhaka along with the whole nation gears up for the Eid festival in commemoration of Prophet Ibrahims devotion to God. Amidst the fervor and anticipation, the city authorities have taken proactive measures to ensure that the sale of sacrificial animals proceeds smoothly, efficiently, and most importantly, safely.

This year, the sale of sacrificial animals has commenced in 16 city corporation-managed makeshift and two permanent cattle markets across the capital. In Dhaka North, under the management of DNCC, there are 8 temporary cattle markets along with one permanent market in Gabtoli. Similarly, Dhaka South, under the administration of DSCC, boasts 10 temporary markets alongside one permanent market in Sarulia. These markets are set to operate for five days, facilitating the needs of buyers and sellers alike.

However, in compliance with a court order, there will be no cattle market at Aftabnagar this year. Despite this constraint, temporary haats have been strategically established across the city, providing accessible avenues for trade. These haats, situated in open spaces adjacent to various locations including Dhaka Polytechnic Institute, Bhatara, Uttara, Mirpur, Mohammadpur, and Dakkhin Khan, ensure convenience for both sellers and buyers.

Efforts have been made to streamline transactions and ensure financial security for all parties involved. Buyers have the option to conduct transactions through online banking, minimizing the need for cash transactions at the market. With the supervision of Bangladesh Bank, instant bank accounts can be opened, facilitating seamless monetary transactions. Additionally, numerous bank booths have been set up within the market premises, further enhancing the efficiency of financial transactions.

Moreover, the authorities have prioritized the safety and comfort of participants. Provision has also been made for ablution and prayers within the market areas, catering to the religious needs of buyers and sellers. Strict regulations are in place to maintain discipline within the haats, with lease holders cautioned against encroaching on public spaces. Law enforcement agencies will be stationed at markets to ensure overall security, fostering a conducive environment for trade.

In Dhaka South, similar measures have been implemented, with temporary markets established at various locations including Jatrabari, Dholaikhal Truck Terminal, Meradia Bazar, and Hazaribag, among others. Each market is equipped with a monitoring committee tasked with maintaining discipline and addressing any irregularities promptly.

As the city prepares to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha, these initiatives underscore the commitment of the authorities to facilitate a smooth and secure process for the sale of sacrificial animals. By prioritizing safety, efficiency, and accessibility, Dhaka sets a commendable example for ensuring a harmonious Eid celebration for all its residents.
