NETROKONA, Jun 8: Law enforcers have raided a farmhouse suspected to be a militant hideout in Bhashapara village in Sadar Upazila and recovered arms, explosives and jihadi books from one of the rooms of the house.
Police suspect more explosive materials might be stored in the house. They have cordoned off the farmhouse until the arrival of expert teams of counter terrorism unit and SWAT.
Additional Superinten-dent of Police Lutfar Rahman said that law-enforcing personnel have surrounded the farm from all sides around 4:00pm on Saturday. Police suspect that arms and explosives were stored in the farmhouse for the training of militants.
Locals said a person named Abdul Mannan constructed the house around 20 years ago. Mannan is a teacher of Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET). He wanted to establish a college there but couldn . He rented out the house two years ago.
Since being rented, the boundary walls of the house were raised further and around 20 CCTV cameras were set up along the wall. No locals are allowed entry inside the house.
Police sources said a team led by Abul Kalam, Netrokona Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge, raided the house Saturday afternoon following a tip-off.
Police Superintendent Md Fayez Ahmed of Netrokona said the counter terrorism unit of police has been informed that the house is a suspected militant den where they are trained. Details can be learnt once bomb experts enter the house.
Asadullah Chowdhury, Additional Inspector General of police of Mymensingh division, said expert teams of counter terrorism unit and SWAT have been summoned.
