The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday upheld the High Court order to suspend the lease notification for setting up a makeshift cattle market in Dhaka's Aftabnagar on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

A four-member Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan passed the order today.

As per the order, no cattle market will be allowed at Aftabnagar, lawyers informed.
Adv Shah Manzurul Haque and Adv SM Shamim Hossain were present for the writ petitioner.

Lawyers Manzurul Haque and Shamim Hossain said that Aftabnagar is pre-planned residential city. Considering this, the Supreme Court upheld the HC order.

On May, 8, an HC bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zinat Haque suspended the lease notification for setting up makeshift cattle market at Aftabnagar.

As the Aftabnagar is a residential area, the court passed the order. Later, Nurul Islam, leaseholder, filed an appeal with the Appellate Division challenging the HC order.
