50 pirates surrender in Ctg, seeking normal life

CHATTOGRAM, May 30: Fifty pirates of 12 gangs surrendered in Chattogram along with firearms on Thursday.

Under the supervision of RAB-7, the pirates of Chattogram and Coxs Bazar coastal areas surrendered to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and submitted their firearms at a programme held at Elite Hall of RAB-7 in Patenga.

They promised to return to normal life after leaving the criminal activities.

Sharif-ul-Alam, senior assistant director of RAB-7, said among the 50 pirates, one is female and three of them were listed in the Home Ministrys list.

Huge arms including 35 guns, 18 SBBL, 17 one-shutter guns, one gun, one pistol, one revolver, three foreign-made pistols, one SMG, two air guns were submitted.

So far, a total of 342 notorious pirates of Banshkhali, Chakaria, Pekua, Maheshkhali, Kutubdia, Chattogram and Coxs Bazar have been arrested and around 2603 arms and 29,123 ammunitions were seized from their possession, according to RAB-7.    â€”UNB
