Sixteen people dies in seven districts of the country due to Cyclone Remal.
Besides,
some 1.75 lakh houses have been destroyed in 19 coastal and adjoining
districts of the country. Of these, 40,338 houses have been completely
destroyed, while 1,33,528 houses were partially destroyed.
The
National Disaster Response Co-ordination Centre of the Ministry of
Disaster Management and Relief disclosed the statistics in a daily
report on Wednesday (May 29).
The powerful tropical Cyclone Remal
hit Bangladesh on Sunday night, flooding coastal villages and leaving
hundreds of thousands of people without power in southern Bangladesh.
On
the following day, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief
Muhibbur Rahman told journalists that 35,438 homesteads were completely
destroyed, while 1,14,992 houses were partially damaged.
According
to the latest available information of the daily report regarding
disaster, majority of the houses were destroyed and damaged in Khulna
district. In this district, 20,762 houses were completely destroyed,
while some 10,000 houses were destroyed in Bagerhat district. The rest
were devastated in other different districts.
The daily report further stated that some 46 lakh people were affected by Cyclone Remal.
The
19 coastal and adjoining districts affected by the Cyclone Remal are
Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalakathi, Barishal, Patuakhali, Pirojpur,
Barguna, Bhola, Feni, Cox's Bazar, Chattogram, Noakhali, Lakkhipur,
Chandpur, Narail, Gopalganj, Shariatpur and Jashore.
