Pieces of meat weighing around four kilograms have been recovered from the septic tank of the flat at Sanjeeva Gardens in New Town of Kolkata.
West Bengal police recovered the pieces of meat conducting searches in the septic tank and sewerage pipe on Tuesday.
It is believed to be the body parts of murdered Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar.
Bhusan Sheikh, a witness and housing sewage system worker, said the meats were kept in a glass jar in salted water.
The meat pieces were flushed through Jihad Howladar's washroom commode. Jihad was earlier arrested in connection with the murder.
The recovered pieces of meat were sent to the forensic laboratory to confirm whether those were MP Azim.
Bhusan Sheikh said he recovered the meats while cleaning the septic tank on Tuesday. The meats were cut into very small pieces. Those meats became whitish remaining in water for days.
A source of the Detective Branch who went to Kolkata to investigate the murder of MP Anar confirmed the information to the media.
The Jhenaidah-4 MP crossed the Darshana-Gede border into India for treatment on May 12. He stayed at his friend Gopal Biswas’s home in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
The following day, he left to see a doctor at noon and was expected to return in the evening. However, a WhatsApp message from his phone to Biswas stated that he went to Delhi instead and would call if necessary.
Since then, he could not be reached by phone. Eventually, the government confirmed his death on May 22, citing Indian police.
