The fourth edition of Bangabandhu Cup 2024 International Kabaddi Tournament named after Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is set to kick off on 26 May, Sunday, at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.
There will be 12 teams representing the three continents of Europe, Africa, and Asia. The teams are Poland, Kenya, Uganda, Japan, South Korea, Iraq, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the host Bangladesh. Japan, South Korea, and Uganda are among the first-time tournament competitors.
Foreign teams will start arriving in Dhaka from 23 May. The grouping and fixtures will be finalised in the managers meeting on 25 May. The matches will begin on 26 May and conclude on 3 June with the final.
A press conference on the occasion was held at the Dutch-Bangla Auditorium of the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) on Monday.
The President of the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation (BKF) and Inspector General of Bangladesh Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun presided over the event.
Whip of Jatiya Sangsad and former captain of Bangladesh National Cricket Team Mashrafe Bin Mortuza, General Secretary and DMP Commissioner of Kabaddi Federation Habibur Rahman, Joint Secretary of Kabaddi Federation SM Newaz Sohag and Vice President of Kabaddi Federation Hafizur Rahman Khan were also there.
