The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) is planning to extend the metro rail’s MRT line-6 from Uttara to Tongi in Gazipur with five new stations for passengers to avail of the elevated rail services.
For getting the service, the authorities concern will construct five more stations of Dhaka Metro Rail.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director MAN Siddique said the work on extending the MRT Line-6 from Motijheel to Kamalapur is progressing, and at the same time, the authorities have started the process to extend the 7.5km rail route from Uttara to Tongi railway station.
MAN Siddique told this while addressing an event titled ‘Branding Seminar on Dhaka Metro Rail’ held at a hotel in the capital on Sunday.
The managing director said the new five stations -- would be built in Diabari Bazar, Sonargaon Janapad Road East, Sonargaon Janapad Road West, Tongi Bazar, and Tongi railway station.
The authorities expected that an additional five lakh passengers would be able to avail the services after completion of the work on this route, MAN Siddique.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the country’s first-ever Metro Rail service on the Uttara–Agargaon route in the capital on December 28, 2022. Later, the service on Agargaon-Motijheel route was inaugurated on November 4, 2023.
