BANDARBAN, May 12: A Bangladeshi national has been shot to death reportedly by Arakan Army inside Myanmar along Naikhongchhari border area in Bandarban district on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Abul Kalam, son of late Badiuzzaman, a resident of Bamhatichhra area in Naikhongchhari Upazila Sadar. The incident occurred inside Myanmar territory near Pillar No. 48 in the Phultoli border area in Naikhongchhari Sadar union early Sunday.
Additional Superintendent of Police in Bandarban Raihan Kazemi confirmed the information.
According to locals, Bangladeshis often cross the border to smuggle food and essential goods to Myanmar rebel group Arakan Army. Like every day, Abul Kalam along with some others entered about two kilometers inside Myanmar through the area called Chelir Dala across the 48th pillar of the border to supply food on Sunday morning.
