Shuttle bus service launched from Tongi to Diabari Metro Rail Station

Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) has opened the shuttle bus service from Tongi to Diabari Metro Rail Station to facilitate commuters traveling to Dhaka using metro rail.

Local lawmaker Zahid Ahsan Russell inaugurated the shuttle bus service at 12pm on Thursday. At that time, BRTC officials, local Awami League leaders and activists were present.

BRTC authorities said that the bus service will start at 7am every day and will continue till 8pm.

To use this service, passengers will have to take BRTC buses from Tongi Station Road for Diabari Metro Rail Station.  Initially, the bus will operate 11 times a day and the fare is Tk 22.

BRTC's chief executive officer Major Mohammad Nizam Uddin said the shuttle bus service from Tongi to Diabari Metro Rail Station began on Thursday. Thousands of passengers will get the opportunity to travel to Dhaka by using the Metro Rail from morning to night. The service may be extended to Shibbari in Gazipur according to the demand of the service, he said.

Zahid Ahsan Russell, MP, said Metro Rail service is one of the successful projects of present government. As the residents of Tongi were deprived of this facility for long time, they requested the authorities in this regard. Now, thousands of people from Tongi could travel to Dhaka in just 20 minutes.

Among others, Zahur Sahara, manager of Joar Sahara Bus Depot of BRTC, Rakibul Hasan, manager (operation) of Gazipur Bus Depot, and Md Shamsul Haque, president of Gazipur Heritage and Development, were present at the inaugural ceremony.
