NAGARPUR, TANGAIL, May 3: A local leader of Swechchhasebak League was allegedly hacked to death in a clash over land between two groups in Nagarpur Upazila of the district on Thursday noon. At that time, at least seven people were also injured.
The incident took place in Bhadra Village of the upazila at around 12 pm.
The deceased was identified as Rajib, 30, son of freedom fighter Alam Mia of that village. He was a senior vice-president of Bhadra Union Unit of Swechchhasebak League.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nagarpur Police Station (PS) HM Jasim Uddin said that there was a longstanding dispute between Azahar and Rajib over a land boundary in the area. On Thursday morning, following this, a dispute started between the two groups. At one stage, a clash broke out between them. Later on, Azahar and his family members hacked Rajib with sharp weapons. At that time, Rajibs family members were also injured when they tried to stop them.
The injured were rescued and taken to Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex in Manikganj, where the on-duty doctor declared Rajib dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
Filing of a case with Nagarpur PS is underway and the law enforcers are trying to arrest those involved in the murder, the OC added.
