A local Swechchhasebak League leader was allegedly hacked to death in a clash over land between two groups in Tangail's Nagarpur on Thursday. At that time, at least seven people were injured.
The incident took place at Bhadra village of the upazila around 12 pm.
Deceased Rajib, 30, son of freedom fighter Alam Mia of that village, was a Senior Vice President of Bhadra Union Swechchhasebak League.
Nagarpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) HM Jasim Uddin said that there was a long-standing dispute between local Azahar and deceased Rajib over a land boundary. On Thursday morning, following this, a dispute started between the two groups. At one point, a clash broke out between them. Later, Azahar and his family hacked Rajib with sharp weapons. At that time, Rajib's family members were also injured when tried to stop them.
The injured were rescued and taken to Manikganj's Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared Rajib dead.
A case is being prepared in this regard, the OC added.
